Springcreek Landscaping
6.3 kW Grid-Tied Solar System
Logansport, Indiana, September 2009
By installing a 30 panel solar array, the owners of Springcreek Landscaping lowered their monthly electric bill by more than half and did their part to reduce the amount of pollution from burning fossil fuels. The array is a unique installation in the wetlands of the property. A sort of pan was built for the solar panel racking to sit in, and then cinder blocks placed inside to prevent the system from moving in wet weather. The system includes 30 Kyocera 210 Watt solar panels and a Sunny Boy 7000 US inverter. A grant from the USDA helped to pay for the solar system.
The owners are the first to net meter with the Logansport Municipal Utilities. LMU's distribution manager said that cooperation with independent producers of “green” power can be beneficial, especially in the summer months when LMU must purchase supplemental power from Duke Energy. He said the solar power energy would reduce the amount they buy.
