This residential 5.5 kW solar PV grid-tied system and solar thermal water heating are a part of the many deliberate decisions made by this homeowner to build their new home "green" and in compliance to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating. To receive the LEED rating, new construction has to meet specific criteria for sustainability and green product use.
The home includes solar thermal in addition to the PV electric system. Two Apricus solar collectors are mounted on the roof which then heats water in the Equinox tank inside the home.
