Midwest Energy Cooperative
4 kW Solar Grid-Tied System
Cassopolis Michigan, January 2008
Midwest Energy Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility serving residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial customers in southwestern and southeastern Michigan, northern Indiana and Ohio. The renewable energy installation onsite, named The Danny Young Memorial Renewable Energy Park, is designed to educate and help interested consumers make informed decisions. The park is named in memory of Danny Young, a Midwest Energy Cooperative apprentice lineman who was killed in a tragic gas line explosion in December 2006, and it includes a small memorial.
The park features a 4kW solar panel display and a 5 kW wind turbine to represent what a typical residential application might include. Each element is grid-tied and metered to provide real-time information and data on output and availability. A live data center shows current output and relevant weather conditions that impact the output from each system.
